Bags and Packaging

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest threats to ocean health worldwide. Did you know that between 4 and 12 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean each year? That’s enough to cover every foot of coastline on the planet! And that amount is expected to triple in the next 20 years, according to National Geographic. Scientists estimate that more than half of the world’s sea turtles and nearly every seabird on Earth has eaten plastic.

Plastic bags specifically are extremely harmful to the environment. In 2015, 730,000 tons of plastic bags, sacks and wraps were used in the United States, but more than 87% of those items were never recycled. Where do these plastic bags end up? Oceans and landfills.

How can the amount of plastic in the ocean be reduced? How can we start to tackle this problem?

It’s up to individuals to make a difference – and that’s exactly what Rita, Kriszta and Csaba at EarthSmart Life have been doing. By creating reusable, washable paper bags and eliminating packaging plastic, they are taking a stand against plastic waste.

Why? Because sustainability matters. It’s up to each one of us to make direct, conscious choices that impact the Earth in a positive way and finally put an end to plastic waste.
